Railroad, Environmental Groups Unhappy with New Transportation Regulations

The safety regulations recently announced by the U.S. Department of Transportation are drawing fire from railroad industry groups and environmental agencies for being ineffective. Specifically, the new regulations allow unsafe rail cars to continue hauling hazardous materials for up to five years and do not strengthen thermal protection standards on new rail cars.
