DIN rail power supplies with real-time monitoring

The newest generation of QUINT Power supplies gives control engineers improved configuration and diagnostics to ensure reliable power to the control system. Phoenix Contact has added near-field communications, real-time monitoring, coordinated surge protection, and a configurable DC output characteristic to the proven QUINT Power line.

With secured NFC, the QUINT POWER can be configured while still in the box. User-definable settings allow monitoring of real-time DC current, power, or voltage using a 4-20mA analog output. The QUINT Power supplies can also be made tamper-proof by locking out the push buttons on the front panel and creating a user-defined password. In addition, operating hours, DC Input voltage, overvoltage and temperature derating can also be monitored with dry contact outputs.

While QUINT Power supplies have always relied on metal-oxide varistors (MOVs) for transient protection, the new models add a gas-discharge tube (GDT) for coordinated protection.

The new generation continues the use of established QUINT features like Power Boost and Selective Fuse Breaking (SFB) technology. SFB technology delivers six times the rated current for up to 15 milliseconds to selectively trigger standard circuit breakers. The static boost with up to 125 percent of the rated current is available at all times, allowing the system to be conveniently expanded. For starting heavy loads, the dynamic boost with up to 200 percent of the rated current for up to five seconds is also available.

No matter what the application, QUINT POWER can do it all—and more:

  • Alarm setting lets you know when your power supply begins to derate due to ambient temperature
  • Gas discharge tubes and MOVs are present in all units to provide coordinated protection against transients
  • An analog output is available to send real-time current, voltage, or power being used back to your PLC, HMI, or SCADA controller
  • Pull unit out of stock and configure with an Android phone or PC software through NFC while still in the box
  • Adjust power supply voltage using up/down buttons and lock it in with password protection for security
  • Run-time clock keeps track of hours of operation and expected life … predictive maintenance
  • The ability to configure the output characteristic of the power supply (between SFB mode, Smart-hiccup, and Fuse Mode) to match power supply performance to the application
  • Remote shutdown of the DC output known as “sleep mode” allows for safe user interaction with the application
